North Macedonia: Increase in foreign tourists in 2024

The number of tourists in North Macedonia increased by 7.8% in 2024, according to data from the State Statistical Service of the neighboring country.

Specifically, the number of domestic tourists decreased by 1%, while foreign tourists increased by 13.1%. Also, in 2024, the number of overnight stays increased by 5.2%. Individually, the number of overnight stays by domestic tourists increased by 2.1%, while the number of overnight stays by foreign tourists increased by 8.9%.

The number of tourists in December 2024 amounted to 55,371, of which 38.5% were domestic tourists and the remaining 61.5% were foreign tourists. The number of overnight stays in December 2024 was 113,490, of which 41.2% were made by domestic tourists and the other 58.8% by foreign tourists.

Moreover, according to data from the State Statistical Service of North Macedonia, Greek exports to the neighboring country amounted to approximately 986 million euros in 2024 compared to 1.04 billion in 2023, with Greece being the fourth-largest exporter to North Macedonia.

The 5.5% drop is mainly due to the further slight decrease in international fuel prices last year. As for the main markets to which North Macedonian products are directed, Germany has consistently been in first place by a long way, where about 40% of the country’s exports are directed. Serbia and Bulgaria follow, while Greece is in 7th place with imports from North Macedonia at 263 million euros

As for the general data, the total value of exported goods from North Macedonia in 2024 amounted to 7.78 billion euros, marking a decrease of 6.5% compared to the corresponding period last year, while the value of imported goods in the same period amounted to 11.06 billion euros or 0.8% less than in 2023.
