Greek Tourism Minister meets with Mozambique’s Deputy Minister of Tourism

Minister Olga Kefalogiannis held a meeting with Mozambique’s Deputy Minister of Tourism, Mr. Fredson Bacar, at the Ministry of Tourism. Mr. Bacar was accompanied by his Advisor, Mr. Jeremias Luis Ernesto Manussa, and the Honorary Consul General of Greece in Maputo, Mr. Gerasimos Marketos.

Mr. Bacar expressed his admiration for Greek culture and invited Ms. Kefalogiannis to pay an official visit to Mozambique. The discussion focused on the further development of bilateral tourism relations, the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation, the promotion of tourism investments, the air connection between Greece and Mozambique, as well as cooperation in special forms of tourism such as gastronomic, sightseeing tourism, maritime tourism, cruises, etc.

The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Mr. Bacar, stated that his country is continuing the program of abolishing visas to Mozambique for some third countries and that Greece will be included among them.

He also pointed out that his government has set as its goal the improvement of air connectivity with Greece, by increasing flights on a daily basis, especially of the airlines that already connect Maputo with Athens.

Ms. Kefalogianni asked Mr. Bacar to support the candidacy of former Minister of Tourism Mr. Haris Theocharis for the position of Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization, as well as the promotion of the Greek candidacy in the African region.

Finally, Ms. Kefalogianni and Mr. Bacar agreed to meet again, at the end of May, in Spain, on the sidelines of the 123rd Meeting of the Executive Board of the World Tourism Organization, where the candidacies for the position of Secretary-General of the Organization will be presented and the candidate will be selected to be submitted to the General Assembly.
