Friendship Pact of the Municipality of Elliniko-Argyroupoli with Cities in Egypt

The Municipality of Elliniko-Argyroupoli approved the proposal to sign a Friendship Pact with cities in Egypt.

In particular, the Friendship Pact between the Municipality of Elliniko-Argyroupoli and the cities of Dahab and Sharm el-Sheik in Egypt, according to the Municipality, is a strategically important initiative, which aims to strengthen the ties between two historical countries in the Mediterranean. This cooperation focuses on three main axes: tourism, culture, and education, offering opportunities for mutual development and progress.

Tourism: Developing sustainable partnerships

Tourism is one of the main pillars of the economy of both Greece and Egypt. Hellinikon-Argyroupoli and the cities of Sharm el-Sheik and Dahab have unique advantages and natural landscapes that can be exploited through the exchange of know-how, joint promotion actions, and interconnection of tourist flows.

Through the Friendship Pact, the exchange of good practices in the field of sustainable tourism development is envisaged, the creation of joint promotion actions for tourists who wish to experience culturally different destinations, as well as the organization of events promoting local products and traditions. In addition, the development of thematic tourism, such as religious, gastronomic, or educational tourism, which will focus on the common cultural elements of the two peoples, can be explored.

Special emphasis is also given to the exchange of tourism professionals, tour guides, and executives who can contribute to the improvement of the services provided through training and work visits.

Culture: A bridge of tradition and innovation

The cultural heritage of Greece and Egypt is among the richest in the world, with roots dating back to antiquity and common elements that have shaped the Mediterranean identity. The Friendship Pact aims to highlight these cultural ties through the implementation of joint artistic and cultural actions.

Among the actions envisaged are the organization of festivals, theatrical performances, film screenings, and art exhibitions with the participation of artists from both regions. Exchanges of cultural delegations, dance groups, musical ensembles, and traditional art groups will strengthen intercultural dialogue and contribute to understanding and respect for diversity.

It is also planned to strengthen actions between cultural organizations and the cooperation of municipal libraries and cultural centers with the aim of exchanging materials, publications, and jointly organizing events. The creation of Greek Culture Days in Sharm el-Sheik and, respectively, Egyptian Culture Days in the Municipality of Elliniko-Argyroupoli will function as a tool for strengthening cultural ties and friendship between the two peoples.

Education for a Common Future

The Friendship Pact places particular emphasis on the interconnection of educational institutions in the two regions, supporting actions such as school twinning, student and teacher exchanges, joint educational programs, and online workshops.

Special programs for learning the Greek and Arabic languages, with the aim of cultivating linguistic contact and cultural understanding, can be included in the framework of this cooperation. The creation of digital communication platforms between schools, the organization of joint projects on topics such as climate change, history, or science, promotes collaborative learning and strengthen the spirit of international friendship.

The strengthening of friendship between the Municipality of Elliniko-Argyroupoli and the cities of Egypt is not limited to institutions, but extends to the everyday life of citizens, creating new prospects for twinning, business cooperation, and cultural exchange.
