More than 90 tourism professionals from the Czech Republic visited Sitia from 15 to 17 May 2025, participating in a conference of the Czech travel company CK ?edok. The visit was part of an organized familiarization trip (fam trip) aimed at discovering Eastern Crete as an emerging destination for the Central European market.
During their stay, the participants had the opportunity to get to know the wider area of ??the Municipality of Sitia, visit tourist infrastructure, traditional settlements, cultural attractions such as the Toplou Monastery, and taste local products through authentic gastronomic experiences.
The choice of Sitia by CK ?edok as the venue for the conference is part of the company’s strategy to expand its presence in the Eastern Mediterranean. As announced on the sidelines of the event, direct flights from the Czech Republic to Sitia airport will be launched from 2026, which is expected to significantly boost tourism from the Czech and Slovak markets.
The local response was warm, with the participation of organizations, cultural associations, and businesses, which contributed to the creation of a comprehensive hospitality experience. The visitors’ impressions were positive, confirming the potential of the region as a hospitable and sustainable destination.
The action was supported by the Region of Crete, the Sitia Development Organization (OAS), MADES, and the Lassithi Chamber of Commerce.
