July was a strong month for the 14 regional airports managed by Fraport Greece, recording more than 3.36 million passengers in arrivals. This picture confirms the country’s stable demand in the summer season, but also the dependence of Greek tourism on specific markets, with the United Kingdom, Germany and Italy consistently at the top.
United Kingdom: the undisputed “leader”
The 695,273 arrivals from the United Kingdom place this market in first place, by a distance from the other countries. Britain confirms its role as a leading source of visitors for the islands and mainly for destinations such as Rhodes, Corfu, Kos and Zakynthos, where air connectivity and organized packages continue to fuel demand.
Domestic traffic: second force
Greece’s position in second place with 450,391 arrivals is interesting. The strong presence of Greek travelers at Fraport airports reflects the shift to domestic air travel, whether for vacation or business travel, and confirms the consolidation of the internal market as a factor of stability.
Germany: a timeless pillar
With 431,608 arrivals, Germany remains the most reliable market in Europe for Greece. The geographical spread of German travelers, from Crete and the Dodecanese to the Ionian Islands, supports the tourist season and constitutes a crucial “counterweight” to potential fluctuations from other markets.
Italy and Poland on the rise
Italy also recorded a significant presence with 348,047 arrivals, mainly strengthening the Ionian Islands and the southern Aegean. At the same time, Poland continues to emerge as a strategic market with 189,123 arrivals, a result of the dynamic presence of low-cost airlines and the continuous expansion of routes.
Secondary markets with a significant footprint
The Netherlands (120,160 arrivals), France (113,314) and Denmark (106,492) follow, forming a “second wave” of European countries with a steady contribution to the summer season. Austria (103,745) and the Czech Republic (88,700) further strengthen the Central European network, while Sweden and Norway (87,048 and 83,271 respectively) show the importance of the Scandinavian market.
Markets outside Europe
The Israeli market with 83,302 arrivals continues to supply Greece, despite the challenges in the region, while a smaller but notable footprint is recorded by the United Arab Emirates (3,724 arrivals) and Turkey (11,957).
The conclusion for July
The overall picture confirms that July 2025 moved at very high levels, with the main European markets remaining the driving forces of Greek tourism. However, the dependence on a few large markets creates the need for diversification strategies in order to strengthen the resilience of the sector.
