Greece is turning its attention to the Korean market, recognizing the momentum that has developed in recent years in outbound tourism from South Korea. According to reliable information, the possibility of reopening a GNTO office in Japan is being seriously considered, with the aim of strengthening the promotion and promotion of our country in South Korea.
This move is linked to the ever-increasing demand of Koreans for travel to Europe and especially to Greece. Already, more than 55,000 arrivals are recorded annually, with our country being a destination that combines culture, history, gastronomy and island experience — elements that particularly attract Korean travelers.
At the same time, the two airlines Korean Air and T Way Air are seriously considering the prospect of direct flights from Seoul to Athens, which, if implemented, is expected to act as a catalyst for the further development of the tourist flow. To date, the connection is mainly served through charter flights organized by travel agencies, which shows the strong interest of the market, but also the need for fixed routes.
In the event that the opening of the office in Japan does not proceed immediately, Korean tourist interest will be served by the GNTO office in China. However, the intention of the Ministry of Tourism and the Greek National Tourism Organization is clear: to strengthen Greece’s tourist presence in South Korea through targeted actions, creating the conditions for further increasing arrivals and strengthening tourism penetration in a high-spending market.
This perspective confirms that Greece does not view Asia only as a distant market, but as a strategic partner for the sustainable development of its tourism, and the recent visit of Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni to South Korea triggered the above developments.
