Greece is among the top five most popular holiday destinations for French travelers in August, along with metropolitan France, Spain, Tunisia and Morocco.
This is according to the monthly destination barometer, Orchestra Barometer, published by the travel platform Orchestra for L’Echo touristique and representing the sales picture of tour operators carried out in French traditional and online travel agencies.
Travel sales from all destinations combined showed a decrease of 5.5% compared to August 2024, after a decrease of 8% that had occurred in July. This is a significant drop in activity in France’s organized tourism, which is however quite moderate compared to the drop in June (-16.7%) which was due to the effects of the instability between Israel and Iran.
In particular, our country was the third most popular foreign destination for August but demand followed the general downward trend with a decrease in sales for organized holidays of -4.6% and a decrease in the average expenditure per booking of 3.7%.
At the level of other countries, in August 2025 a decrease in sales of 6.8% and -1.6% of the average expenditure per booking is recorded for Spain (1st place among international destinations), a decrease of 10.8% and -1.3% respectively for Tunisia (2nd place) and a decrease of 1.8% and +5.6% respectively for Morocco (4th place).
In contrast, Egypt recorded an impressive 26.3% year-on-year increase and was ranked 5th among the most popular international destinations for French travelers. However, the average spend per booking decreased by 8.6%. Italy followed, with a 9% increase in demand and a 2.6% increase in average spend per booking.
As for the US, the market remains stagnant (–17%), although the average spend per booking decreased by only 5%.
Despite the good signs in non-package airline bookings in August, the barometer shows that the picture for the US remains problematic. The trends recorded in September will show whether the “Trump factor” is really acting as a deterrent for French travelers or if this is a temporary phenomenon.
