This year is expected to end on a positive note in terms of arrivals from Cyprus, despite the temporary “freezing” of bookings and the fluctuations observed in demand – mainly last July – due to major fires.
The summer of 2025 highlighted both the vulnerability and the dynamics of Greek tourism. Natural disasters, such as fires and earthquakes, affected planned arrivals, however, Greece continues to occupy a central position in the travel choices of Cypriots.
In this context, the GNTO Service Cyprus Abroad in collaboration with the Municipality of Aegina, successfully organized a familiarization trip (Press Trip) from 04 to 06 September 2025 to the island of Aegina, with the participation of three Cypriot journalists from reputable Cypriot media outlets (FILELEFTHEROS- Alphanewslive and www.reporter.com.cy). The journalists were accompanied by the Head of the GNTO Cyprus Office, Ms. Athena Spakouri.
The aim of the action was to highlight the authentic identity of Aegina, which uniquely combines history, culture, gastronomy and Greek hospitality. The participating media representatives from Cyprus had the opportunity to get to know the sights, natural beauties, and flavors of the island up close, conveying their experiences to the general public through publications and special features.
This action is part of the GNTO strategy to enhance the extroversion of Greek tourism, highlighting destinations with a strong identity and a rich tourist product, such as Aegina, which has proven once again that it is an ideal choice for short getaways and for visitors seeking authentic experiences.
During their brief stay in Athens, the journalists met at his Office with the Secretary General of the Greek National Tourism Organization, Mr. Andreas Fiorentino, with whom they discussed issues of concern to the two countries in the tourism sector, as well as ways to enhance the visibility of Greece to the Cypriot public.
In the meeting with the President of the Aegina Hoteliers, Mr. S. Kalamakis, the importance of the new connection of the port of Agia Marina Aegina with the port of Piraeus and its role in increasing traffic to the island was highlighted.
The Municipality of Aegina ensured full and quality hospitality on the island, offering a special gastronomic tasting based on pistachios. The journalists were accompanied on the tours by the Deputy Mayor for Tourism, Ms. Olga Petriti.
The program included visits to monasteries, museums, archaeological sites, as well as traditional villages, giving the visiting journalists the opportunity to get to know the destination comprehensively and to highlight through their articles the multitude of options available on the island.
