Greece shone as the most hospitable country in the world in the awards of Germany’s largest online travel magazine, TRAVELBOOK, with monthly visitors exceeding 5.5 million (August 2025).
At the fourth TRAVELBOOK AWARDS, which honors the most up-and-coming travel destinations for the upcoming season in different categories, Greece won the top title in the world for its hospitality, as judged by the magazine’s readers.
According to TRAVELBOOK editor Katharina Regenthal, who has been traveling to Greece since childhood, Greece is not only exciting as a country but also thanks to its people. “Even as a child, I noticed how warm the Greeks are, especially to younger visitors,” she says.
The TRAVELBOOK Awards were presented on Tuesday, September 23, at Axel Springer in Berlin in front of representatives of the travel and tourism industry.
The award was received by Nicole Lekanidi, Director of the Greek National Tourism Organization in Germany, who emphasized:
“In Greek we say hospitality – the love and friendship towards the stranger. It is something deeper than simple politeness, it is true concern. Greece is not only sea and sun – it is its people, who show love, joy and warmth to every visitor.”
For the first time, the TRAVELBOOK AWARDS 2025 were determined primarily by the community through an online vote, in which 150,000 readers participated.
The other winners of the awards were….
- Auvergne in France | Best Camping Area in Europe
- Okavango Delta in Botswana | Best Sustainable Safari Destination
- High Tatras, Slovakia and Poland | Best Hidden Gem in Europe
- Bad Wimpfen in Baden-W?rttemberg, Salzburg in Austria and Lucerne in Switzerland | The Most Beautiful Cities in Germany, Austria and Switzerland
According to the magazine’s editor-in-chief Nuno Alves, TRAVELBOOK has been inspiring millions of people to discover new places for many years. As he said, with the new public vote, the magazine’s community contributed and helped to determine the most up-and-coming travel destinations of the coming season. The results not only represent the knowledge and desires of our readers, but also provide inspiration for the industry, he emphasized.
