65 thousand Brazilian tourists in Greece

Brazil is a significant market for outbound tourism. In recent years before the pandemic, more than 10 million Brazilians traveled abroad annually, ranking it in 17th place as a country of origin for tourists. The main travel destinations of Brazilians are Argentina and the USA from America and Portugal, France, Italy, the United Kingdom from Europe.

According to data from the Bank of Greece for 2023 (latest available), Brazilian arrivals in our country in 2023 amounted to 23,271 compared to 53,293 in 2022, i.e. 0.15% of all arrivals in Greece.

In 2021, Brazilians visited our country only 1,272 or 0.01% of all arrivals. It is noted that in 2020 and 2021 there was a sharp decrease in the arrivals of Brazilian tourists to Greece due to travel restrictions due to the pandemic. In the last year before the pandemic, in 2019, 82,608 Brazilians visited Greece. Accordingly, the latest available data for 2018 from the Brazilian Ministry of Tourism indicate that 66,185 Brazilian tourists visited our country.

It is worth noting that due to the lack of direct air connections, Brazilians visit Greece through other European countries and in combination with their visit to these countries. The main European airports that serve transit visitors to and from Brazil are London, Frankfurt, Zurich, Paris, Amsterdam, Istanbul and via Lisbon and Madrid. The Portuguese airline TAP is the European company with the most flights to and from Brazil. Also, a significant traffic of transit passengers takes place through Dubai airport. Brazilian travel agencies that organize packages to our country consider that the number of 65 thousand Brazilian tourists in Greece reflects the reality in which the tourist flow is moving.

The information comes from the Office of Economic and Commercial Affairs in S?o Paulo.
