The rising hotel prices and the twice as high tourist tax during peak season on the Balearic Islands are causing intense displeasure among customers.
“The increased bed tax discourages many customers and urges them to move to other destinations,” says Markus Daldrup, Managing Director of Alltours.
In his view, the scheme of the local government to lure guests into the off-season is wrong: “That does not work.” Winter holidays in the Balearics is indeed a current trend, but ultimately a very different product than Mallorca in the summer.
Daldrup also points out that demand for hotels that only moderately adjusted their prices was above the level of the previous year. On the other hand, hotels with sharp price increases in some cases, moved them clearly in the danger zone.
