Skiathos and Kefalonia from Greece, as well as Larnaca (first) and the mountainous Troodos region in Cyprus, emerged among the top 7 European destinations for tourists over 65, according to a recent study by TUI Musement based on experience ratings from travelers of the so-called baby boomer generation.
With the population of over 65s in the EU now exceeding 21%, “silver tourism” is becoming increasingly important in shaping tourism demand. Travelers in this age group have more free time, greater financial comfort, and prefer off-peak travel, contributing positively to the expansion of the tourist season.
Skiathos, although famous for its youthful atmosphere, attracts mature travelers with popular activities such as day cruises to neighboring islands, with a special stop in Skopelos, famous from the movie Mamma Mia!.
Kefalonia stands out for its natural landscapes and organized tours to attractions such as Lake Melissani, Myrtos Beach, and picturesque Fiskardo. The excursion to Ithaca is also popular for those who love mythology.
In Cyprus, coastal Larnaca is first on the TUI Musement list, with an average score of 8.76. Special mention is also made of Troodos, which charms older travelers with traditional villages such as Lefkara (photo) and Fikardou, as well as nature trails.
TUI Musement’s list is rounded out by destinations such as Madeira, Sorrento, Menorca, and La Palma, all of which offer mild climates, cultural interest, and a relaxed pace—elements that are particularly appreciated by the elderly travel public.
