Thomas Ellerbeck | “Rhodes can become a model of sustainable tourism internationally”

Thomas Ellerbeck, member of the Executive Committee of the TUI Group, appeared particularly optimistic about the 2025 tourist season and clearly committed to the strategic cooperation with Rhodes, speaking to the Rhodes Daily.

As he emphasized, TUI has been investing in the island over time, not only by strengthening the season and bringing hundreds of thousands of visitors, but also by actively supporting actions of a social, environmental, and cultural nature. Rhodes is a jewel for TUI. We are proud that we can contribute substantially to the development of tourism with respect for the environment and the local community,” he stated characteristically.

TUI’s presence as a major sponsor of the Rhodes International Marathon is, according to him, an example of the company’s philosophy of investing in actions that highlight sports and experiential tourism, strengthening the image of Rhodes as a premium destination. At the same time, he made special reference to the innovative program “Rhodes Co-Lab”, a collaboration between TUI and the South Aegean Region, which aims to transform Rhodes into a global model of sustainable tourism development. “We share the same vision with the Regional Governor Giorgos Hadjimarkos. Rhodes has all the conditions to become a reference point in the transition towards a more sustainable and quality tourism”, he said.

Asked about the prospects for this season, Ellerbeck said that bookings are particularly encouraging, while the demand for experiences that combine luxury with authenticity, respect for nature, and local identity is increasing. “Travelers today are not just looking for accommodation, but for experiences that enrich their lives. Rhodes has the potential to offer exactly that — and TUI is here to showcase it,” he concluded.
