The National Tourism Organization is about to publish a nationwide event map. As revealed by the General Secretary of the Organization Andreas Fiorentinos, the “event map” will be distributed to tour operators and travel agents, so that they can know the events scheduled for specific weeks and weekends and organize trips, targeting specific audiences interested in:
- cinematic events
- marathons
- music festivals
- gastronomic and wine tasting events
The goal is to extend the season, spread demand throughout the country and attract specialized tourism groups.
As Mr. Fiorentino points out, the recent Hays Travel conference in the Peloponnese is an example of how large tour operators can get to know new areas and integrate them into their program.
The organization paved the way for more visibility of the Peloponnese in the British market, which traditionally focuses its interest on well-known destinations.
According to Mr. Fiorentino, travelers appear more cautious due to geopolitical developments, however, “they are willing to pay more for services and experiences, choosing slightly shorter holidays.” The addition of new thematic experiences – culture, gastronomy, adventure – significantly strengthens the tourist basket and is a central goal of the Greek National Tourism Organization, as he says.
