Free internet access granted to 14,500 households in remote islands of Greece

The permanent residents of 47 remote islands in Greece are to gain free internet access based on a Joint Ministerial Decision signed on Thursday by Digital Policy, Telecommunications and Media Nikos Pappas and Interior Minister Panos Skourletis.

The measure intends to end the “digital exclusion” of residents in remote locations and subsidises the purchase of the equipment required and the annual connection fee up to a fixed amount. More than 14.5 thousands households on the islands of Lipsi, Gavdos, Halki, Agathonissi, Agios Efstratios, Anafi, Sikinos, Psarra, Megisti, Folegandros, Oinousses and Kimolos are expected to benefit.
