Global familiarity with Artificial Intelligence is growing rapidly, however, its understanding, trust and acceptance remain in demand. Greece, like many other countries, seems ready to move forward, but with a cautious and critical attitude towards the new era that is already taking shape.
This is the result of the global trust survey “GLOBAL PUBLIC CONFIDENCE”, which examines the perceptions of citizens in 21 countries on Artificial Intelligence (AI), in which Focus Bari, representative of the international network IRIS (International Research Institutes) in Greece, participated.
The results outline a global landscape of knowledge, concerns and different rates of adoption of the new technology, with Greece moving close to the international average.
According to the findings:
-Artificial Intelligence is now known worldwide, as more than 8 out of 10 people state that they have heard of it and its applications. In Greece, awareness is at the same levels as abroad.
-However, information does not mean understanding: only 1 in 3 citizens state that they essentially understand what AI is and how it works, with large differences between countries.
-AI is gradually entering everyday life, but more slowly in the workplace. Citizens are increasingly using it in their personal routines (e.g. applications, communication, entertainment), while its professional use remains limited.
-In Greece, the social attitude towards AI is multi-layered: according to the longitudinal study by Focus Bari, three distinct groups are formed: the positively inclined, the cautious (positive under certain conditions) and the negative, who express concern and distrust about the impacts of the technology.
