Ryanair | All is well with the digital boarding pass

Ryanair announced today (Wednesday, November 12) that the first day of implementation of the new digital boarding pass (Digital Boarding Pass – DBP) was completed with complete success.

According to the company’s data, by 13:00 at noon, more than 700 flights had taken place across Europe without any delays or disruptions. Over 98% of passengers used the digital boarding pass, while the remaining 2% —despite having already checked in online— received free boarding passes from airport counters.

The company notes that passengers have welcomed the new system positively, as the process of passing through security checks and boarding gates has become faster and easier. No passengers were prevented from travelling, and in the few cases where there was a technical problem with a mobile phone, boarding took place normally, as the passenger’s details were already in the system through online check-in.

Ryanair’s CMO, Dara Brady, said:

“The first day of the digital boarding pass was a huge success. More than 700 flights and over 100,000 passengers enjoyed the improved, paperless boarding experience at Ryanair airports. We estimate that this initiative will save up to €40 million per year, which will allow us to further reduce ticket prices and strengthen competition in the European aviation industry.”

Ryanair’s digital boarding pass is part of the company’s digitalisation strategy and its effort to improve the passenger experience while reducing its environmental footprint.
