Greek Finance Ministry: Owners to pay extra taxes on properties rented online from now on

According to Greece’s Finance Ministry, new plans are underway for property owners who rent properties via sites such as Airbnb, HomeAway, FlipKey and HouseTrip.

The new regulations to be put into place will fine owners 50,000 euros if they do not declare their earnings from rental on the taxes.

Owners’ revenues will also have additional tax of 15 to 45 percent, depending on how much revenue they make.

The Finance Ministry is putting into place a unique identification number in order to identify properties in every ad or platform in which they appear in order to curb owners from hiding revenues when filing their taxes.

Additionally, there will be a mandatory 5 percent charge when properties are booked on any online platform which will go to the Greek state.
