Le Figaro report: How can homeowners legally hide revenues from Airbnb platform

Le Figaro web site posted a report entitled: “Airbnb proposes to landlords a bank card that hides their revenues from tax authorities.”

According to France Info, Airbnb platform proposes to owners who rent their properties to be paid via a bank card issued in Gibraltar, thus favoring tax evasion.

The company itself confirms the information, but notes that there are numerous companies worldwide that follow the same practice.

For three years, numerous owners have participated in the scheme, according to the same report by France Info’s research team.

Their rental platform has provided them with bank cards, allowing them to hide their income from the French authorities.

In 2014, the company made an agreement with the American company Payoneer, providing property owners with rechargeable credit cards in order to receive rent payments.

The report claims that it is a completely opaque solution which facilitates tax evasion and is invisible to authorities.
