International visitor air arrivals in Greece increased by 5.7 % during the first ten months of 2015, reaching almost 15 million, an additional 809.000 arrivals compared to 2014, according to data available from all major airports
According to data released by the Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE) on Wednesday, Athens’ arrival numbers rose by 23.6 percent during the January-October 2015 period with October alone showing a 5.4% growth in comparison to the same month of 2014.
Revenue increase 45%
The Confederation foresees that despite minor alterations recorded in October, the country’s tourism industry will complete 2015 with a record of 26 million international arrivals. Furthermore, the Bank of Greece announced that the national tourism sector increased revenue by 45% during in the past five years, contributing six points to the GDP.
The positive trend was evident in Cyclades island complex that attained a 30.4 percent increase in October and a 15 percent rise during the January-October period. On the contrary, the Dodecanese island complex and Crete showed a minor decrease by 2 percent and 0.8 percent respectively.
