The Athens Stock Exchange has opened with major gains on Monday morning, following from Friday’s session which saw the index bounce back after a week of major pressure.
The general price index is growing by 7.13% at 15:58 and standing at 486.69 points. Transactions so far have been valued at 43.91 million euros, while the yield of the ten-year bond is currently at 11.52%.
Greek stocks rebounded strongly in the last trading session of a turbulent week in the Athens Stock Exchange last Friday, following a recovery in other European markets. Bank shares came at the focus of buying activity after a 48 pct plunge of the bank index in the previous eight sessions. The composite index of the market jumped 3.04 pct to end at 454.29 points, after losing 20.87 pct in the previous eight sessions. The index ended the week with a net loss of 9.84 pct for a decline of 28.45 pct so far this year.
The Large Cap index jumped 4.63 pct and the Mid Cap index ended 2.85 pct higher. Turnover was a low 52.35 million euros in volume of 150,632,334.
Biggest percentage gains
National Bank (25 pct), Piraeus Bank (20.99 pct), Alpha bank (13.79 pct) and Ellaktor (11.46 pct) scored the biggest percentage gains of the day among blue chip stocks, while Piraeus Port (2.33 pct), Grivalia Properties (2.11 pct) and Viohalco (1.94 pct) suffered heavy losses.
National Bank and Piraeus Bank were the most heavily traded securities of the day. Among market sectors, Banks (16.50 pct), Health (9.76 pct) and Commerce (3.56 pct) scored big gains, while only the Industrial Products index (-0.43 pct) suffered losses.
Broadly, advancers led decliners by 72 to 39 with another 21 issues unchanged. Nereus (29.33 pct), National Bank (25 pct) and Piraeus Bank (20.99 pct) were top gainers, while Forthnet (19 pct), Viokarpet (10 pct) and Ideal (10 pct) were top losers.
