Greek main opposition New Democracy Tourism Sector head Dodecanese MP Manos Konsolas tabled a question to the Minister of Tourism, describing the reduction of tourism revenues as a danger signal for Greek tourism.
According to Bank of Greece data this decrease during the first months of 2016 amounted to 5.5% compared with the same period last year, equivalent to a reduction in revenue by 703 million euros.
As Mr. Konsolas points out: “We are astonished by the inaction and lack of government planning against this major problem which sounds as “danger signal” for our tourism.
The government does not realize that the increase in visitors means nothing if it is accompanied by a respective increase in revenues. This is a sign of competitiveness loss for the Greek tourism product due to overtaxation and the inability of the country to attract tourists with high income.”
