'Christmas Basket' in 2024 is 3% lower than previous year in Greece

The prices of goods included in the ‘Christmas Basket’ announced by the development ministry were 3% lower in Greek supermarket chains over the holidays (Christmas and New Year) this year, compared to 2023, the Consumer Goods Retail Research Institute (IELKA) reported on Monday, ANA reports.
The IELKA report presented the results of a product price survey in large supermarket chains in Greece in December 2024, examining goods included in the “Christmas basket”. Specifically, the survey considers the prices of lamb, goat, and turkey meat, as well as tsoureki buns, New Year’s pie, and chocolate.
The basket in 2024 is on average reduced by 3% compared to 2023, from 44.90 euros to 43.55 euros. Decreased prices are recorded for turkey (-7.9%), tsoureki (-5.9%), pork (-5.6%), lamb (-3.9%) and goat (-2.2%), while there was an 11% increase in prices for chocolate, due to the increases in international cocoa prices.
According to the survey, each supermarket chain includes both different product codes and a different number of codes in the basket.
