Tourism Observatory in the Region of Thessaly in Central Greece

With the inclusion in the Regional Program of Thessaly, the procedures for the pilot operation of a Tourism Observatory by the Region of Thessaly are progressing.

In this context, an invitation was issued aimed at the pilot operation of a Tourism Observatory in the Region of Thessaly, with the aim of targeted promotion of the Region of Thessaly.

In particular, the action focuses on fields such as the recording of the offer of tourist services, which, among other things, concerns businesses and professional bodies that make up the Tourism ecosystem in Thessaly, namely hotels, travel agencies, transport and transportation services, museums, visitable wineries, catering establishments, outdoor activity businesses, tour guides, and other tourist services.

At the same time, the action aims at the systematic monitoring of arrivals, through all available sources of secondary data, such as the Statistical Service, the Bank of Greece, and INSETE. Through the above, data will be collected and analyzed on the attendance and expenditure of visitors to Thessaly and the creation of a mechanism for collecting data from hotels, rental rooms, booking platform,s and others.

Furthermore, the pilot operation of the Tourism Observatory includes, among other things, conducting a visitor satisfaction survey, market research in third countries during the participation of the Thessaly Region in International Exhibitions, as well as the proposal or creation of a framework for collaborations and synergies between institutions and businesses.

The goals for 2025

It should be noted that the philosophy of the tourism promotion action program of the Region of Thessaly for 2025 is to elevate it to a leading, attractive, sustainable, and safe destination, offering authentic tourism travel experiences 365 days a year. The main pillars of the above program are the upgrading and modernization of communication, with the aim of establishing Thessaly as a destination for its mature markets, as well as its penetration and positioning in new ones.

The Region also aims to strengthen the promotion of distinct thematic experiences, so that all seasons of the year are covered in time, emphasizing the diverse tourism product, but also its innumerable possibilities to offer unique experiences to its visitors. In addition to the experiences, the Region also aims at many additional characteristics, which differentiate it and make it special and unique, highlighting the particular natural and cultural physiognomy of each Regional Unit.

Finally, the purpose of the communication strategy of the Region of Thessaly is to reach the visitor who wishes to experience the overall experience of the place, going beyond the sun-sea dichotomy, which is the most established element of the country’s tourist identity.
