Manos Konsolas: How to facilitate the call-up of workers from third countries to work in tourism

The delays observed in the process of calling up personnel from third countries in order to fill jobs in the tourism sector are highlighted by the Member of Parliament for the Dodecanese, Manos Konsolas, in his parliamentary intervention to the Ministers of the Interior and Foreign Affairs.

Mr. Konsolas requests:

1st: The Ministry of Interior to consider the creation of a Special Department in the Decentralized Administration of the South Aegean, which will examine exclusively the transfers of workers from third countries and will be reinforced with personnel since the needs are not only great but also pressing since the start of the tourist season is just around the corner.

All this is given that a large part of the tourist activity is recorded in the South Aegean.

2nd: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs to consider the possibility of facilitating the process, simplifying the control procedures and extending the validity of the visa for workers from third countries and provided that the necessary controls have been carried out.

The Dodecanese MP characterizes this specific problem as crucial for Greek tourism and especially for regions such as the South Aegean.

It even states that today the application for the recall of workers from third countries is submitted to the Decentralized Administration of the South Aegean, which has a waiting period of at least 2 months for the examination of the file depending on the date of submission, while subsequently, the file must be forwarded to the respective Embassy for review, which takes another approximately two to three months.

At the same time, this service is understaffed, and the staff is not sufficient to cover the needs.
