AADE | Fines and locks in tourist destinations

In August, the auditors of the Independent Authority of Public Revenue (AADE) are sweeping popular tourist destinations, carrying out extensive preventive inspections.

Under the microscope of AADE, according to an announcement, were found – among others – islands with increased tourist traffic, such as Lemnos, Mytilene, Tinos, Crete (Chania and Heraklion), Santorini, Rhodes and Poros.

The inspections revealed violations in catering businesses (cafes, bars, restaurants, ouzeries), recreation areas, but also in services such as manicures – pedicures and beach equipment rental (umbrellas, chairs).

Common denominator?
The failure to issue receipts.

In all cases, the measure of 48-hour closure of the business and the imposition of fines was applied.

At the same time, the AADE has requested data from these businesses over a period of years, in order to determine – based on their tax behavior and cross-checking with its own data – whether there are other violations.

Intensive inspections continue nationwide throughout the tourist season, with the aim of combating tax evasion and enhancing transparency in the market – to the benefit of both consistent businesses and consumers.
