A new survey by kariera.gr, the largest job hub in Greece, conducted via LinkedIn and addressed to professionals in the Hospitality and Tourism sector, brings to the fore the real needs and aspirations of employees.
What makes a working environment attractive
According to the results, a positive and supportive climate is the most important factor (42%) for choosing a workplace. This is followed by recognition of work and dedication (36%), while opportunities for learning and development account for 15%. “Bonding with the team” is considered less decisive (8%).
Forms of reward that have value
Providing food and accommodation takes first place (38%), followed by training and development (24%). Additional days of leave are a preference for 21% of respondents, while private health insurance accounts for 16%.
What does it mean to be truly appreciated by your employer?
The majority (56%) say that financial rewards – bonuses or gifts – are the most direct way to feel appreciated. 22% want more career opportunities, 20% want trust and autonomy, while only 3% think a public “thank you” is enough.
The industry’s ambitions
Employees show high expectations:
27% want to start their own business,
25% aim for an international work environment,
25% want a leadership position,
24% aim to become an expert in a field.
Conclusions
The survey highlights that the Hospitality and Tourism industry needs to place greater emphasis on recognition, training and benefits in order to remain attractive and support the ambitions of its people.
As Christos Kourouklis, Head of Business Operations HO.RE.CA, kariera.gr emphasizes:
“When workers in the country’s heavy industry speak, we must listen carefully. The recent research by kariera.gr highlights what really matters and where employers need to focus in Hospitality, so that the sector remains viable and grows.”
