The Region of Crete, with a firm focus on highlighting the rich spiritual and cultural heritage of the island, supports the “Asterousion Politeia” program and the ongoing actions entitled: “Living Tradition and Cultural Innovation in Crete: Alternative Paths of Culture, Faith, Spirituality and Digital Creation”.
This is a multi-level project that unites living tradition with modern forms of expression, theology with ecology and art with social care and is implemented in collaboration with Holy Monasteries, universities and international artists and which is implemented by the Coexistence Laboratory of Theology, Culture and Social Care +ὕπαρξίσ.
The main event will take place tomorrow, Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at 7:00 PM, at the Metochion of the Three Hierarchs – Lousoudi, at the top of Asterousia. During the event, distinguished academics, researchers and representatives of the Church will highlight Asterousia as a vibrant ecosystem of research, knowledge and culture. In this context, students from the schools of the Municipality of Gortyna will be honored for their success in higher education. The evening will culminate with the musical performance “Asterousia Politeia: ὅ,τι ψάπῆξε, ὅ,τι ψάπάρχει καὶ ὅ,τι ἀξίζει νὰ ψάπάρκει”, with hymns and psalms of the 14th century by the Byzantine Orchestra of Crete, conducted by Andreas Giakoumakis.
The +Existence Workshop, which will run until August 30, 2025, focuses on humanity and solidarity. Its program includes a wide range of activities, such as a mosaic exhibition and workshop, theological lectures, art workshops, digital skills workshops with AR/VR technologies, first aid and palliative care training, as well as a summer school for students of the National University of Athens.
The program, organized by the LOOX organization, is supported by the Region of Crete and is under the auspices of the Greek National Tourism Organization, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, the Municipality of Gortyna and other organizations.
