Labor Inspectorate: 6.37 million euros in fines in tourism sector this summer

The number of inspections carried out by the Labor Inspectorate this summer in tourism sector businesses, including hotels, restaurants, transport and travel agencies, has increased by 10%.

More specifically, from June to August, 8,141 inspections were carried out, compared to 7,405 in the corresponding period last year. 1,652 fines were imposed, instead of 2,221 in the summer quarter of 2024, for a total amount of 6,366,105 euros, from 7,362,959 euros last year.

The most inspections (5,313) were carried out on businesses in the catering sector, where the highest sanctions were imposed: 1,137 fines amounting to 4.55 million euros. This was followed by hotels (2,142 inspections, with 284 administrative sanctions amounting to 1.5 million euros), transport (529 inspections, with 191 fines amounting to 269,820 euros) and travel service providers (157 inspections, with 40 sanctions amounting to 36,800 euros).

“We remain committed to operational planning and seek to target inspections to sectors with higher delinquency rates, leveraging the experience of our executives and modern digital data analysis tools,” notes the governor of the Labor Inspectorate, Giorgos Tzilivakis.
