Tourism: Travel receipts reached €22.4 bn in the first 10 months

Travel receipts in the country amounted to €22.38 billion in the January–October 2025 period, recording an increase of almost 9%, or €1.83 billion, compared with the corresponding period of 2024. During the same period, arrivals of non-resident travelers rose by 4.4%, reflecting a clear improvement in average spending per visitor.

According to balance of payments data from the Bank of Greece, October also presents a particularly positive picture, with travel receipts reaching €2.25 billion, up by €170 million or 8.2% compared with October 2024. At the same time, arrivals of non-resident travelers increased by 7.2%, confirming the momentum toward an extension of the tourism season.

The divergence between the growth rate of receipts and that of arrivals over the ten-month period highlights the gradual shift in demand toward higher-value travel, as well as longer lengths of stay or increased consumption of services.

At the same time, the strong performance in October reinforces the position of autumn as a critical period for tourism revenues, with an increasingly significant contribution to the overall annual result.

In October 2025, the current account deficit increased by €449.5 million compared with the corresponding month of 2024 and stood at €1.1 billion, while the balance of goods and services recorded an improvement. The surplus in the services balance showed a slight decline, due to the recording of a deficit instead of a surplus in the balance of other services and the deterioration in the transport balance, which was largely offset by the improvement in the travel services balance.

During the January–October 2025 period, the current account deficit decreased by €1.8 billion compared with the same period of 2024 and stood at €8.1 billion. The deficit in the balance of goods and services also improved. The surplus in the services balance widened due to the improvement in the travel services balance, which was largely offset by the deterioration in the transport and other services balances.
