Greece’s main opposition leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Friday underlined the basic principles and organizational structure for his party.
He set out five key priorities: meritocracy, solidarity, excellence, credibility and growth, which he said are the core of the plan for restructuring the party.
“I pledged to make New Democracy a party that will listen to the society’s needs and will draft its policies in order to cover the needs of the many and not the few. I pledged to proceed with the expansion of New Democracy,” Mitsotakis announced, and added that the program will be built on two principles: freedom and solidarity.
Jumpstart growth
New Democracy leader outlined an approach based on three components — investments, low taxes and jobs — to jumpstart growth in the recession-plagued country, in tandem with a modern social policy that includes a minimum guaranteed income to reduce poverty. The ND leader also stressed a special emphasis on education, restructuring public administration and the improvement of Greece’s credibility abroad.
“New Democracy is rapidly preparing itself for the country’s governance, building a trustworthy relationship with the citizens,” Mitsotakis said, adding that proposals included in the party program will be realistic and easily implemented.
“We make an opening towards society. Apart from the valuable party members we are looking for, we are looking for new people and new ideas. We want to renew New Democracy.”
