A “Marshall Plan” for the South Aegean islands, FED HATTA’s expedition to Iran, an academic distinction for Aegean Airlines president and tourism promotion programs for Municipalities of Grevena and Monemvasia are among the latest news in the Greek travel market
– Economy, Development and Tourism Minister George Stathakis pledged funding a “Marshall Plan” for the South Aegean islands to the Region’s Governor George Hadjimarkos, who testified to the Parliamentary Committee on the Strategic Plan development of the South Aegean Region for the 2015-2019 period.
Hadjimarkos presented data showing that the South Aegean Region had the largest decrease in GDP per capita – 35 units between 2009 and 2013 – and asked Mr. Stathakis for the government’s committment to renew the special support program of the islands, which ended on 31/12/2015.
Ha also asked the minister for the active support of the Greek government in the battle that will be given in Brussels for additional financial support of the Region from European funds, due to the refugee crisis. Mr. Stathakis promised that the Greek government will stand by the South Aegean Region, supporting its claims
– Grevena Municipality approved the annual plan for tourism promotion of the destination.
The program includes:
- Publishing a general and special tourist guide
- Enriching the Municipality’s website
- Printing tourist map of tourist attractions and making it available also in electronic format utilizing modern technologies
- Participation in fairs, advertising in wide circulation printed media.
- Strengthening local promotional events with agricultural products
- Creating promotional video
- Cooperating with the Geopark Grevena Tethys Geopark to create a tourist kiosk in the center of the town
– FED HATTA participated in TITE Report 2016 held in Tehran (between February 16-19) as part of the Greek Representation headed by Alternate Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura, Greek National Tourism Organization General Secretary Dimitris Trifonopoulos and their staffs. FEDHATTA President Lysander Tsilidis had numerous meetings with representatives of the tourism industry of Iran, in order to attract Iranian tourists in Greece. He also had the opportunity to meet Mr. George Ayfantis, Ambassador of Greece in Tehran as well as officers of the Embassy and be updated extensively on the Embassy initiatives for simplifying visa procedure. Many travel agencies participated in the Greek mission including Aktina Travel Group, Ambotis Tours, Amphitrion Holidays, Delta Net Travel, Kalamaki Travel, Kyvernitis Travel & Shipping, Mideast Travel Worldwide, Mouzenidis Travel, Signature Travel, The Travel Company, Travel Directions.
– Aegean Airlines President Theodoros Vasilakis will be appointed Honorary Doctorate of Business Administration at the Economics and Business and International Studies Department at the University of Piraeus. The ceremony will take place on Tuesday March 1st (18:00) at the Municipal Theatre of Piraeus.
– Monemvasia Municipality approved its annual tourism promotion program for the year 2016 which includes the following:
- strengthening and promoting its tourism website
- redesigning of its tourism brand
- upgrading its electronic travel guide rendering more friendly to smart phones
- reprinting tourism brochures and maps with emphasis on the Castle and the area’s hiking paths
- highlighting religious tourism attractions
- participating in tourist exhibitions
- establishing electronic information points
