Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades repeated on Sunday that the Greek Cypriot side will not accept a solution bound to collapse the day after the agreement, CNA reports.
Addressing a memorial ceremony for Theodosis Hadjitheodosiou, a hero of the 1955-1959 EOKA struggle against the British colonial rule, he noted that the preconditions for a Cyprus solution are the reunification of the island, the end of the occupation, the abolishment of guarantees and intervention rights, as well as the creation of those conditions that will allow the peaceful coexistence of Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots.
Despite the Greek Cypriot side’s goodwill and despite his own efforts and those of his predecessors, Turkish intransigence has prevented a solution that could be accepted by the Greek Cypriots, Anastasiades added.
