AP: New Greek government recognizes Guaido, not Maduro, as Venezuela’s president

AP reports from Athens that Greece’s New Democracy government under Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said it recognizes Venezuela’s opposition leader Juan Guaido as that country’s President, not Nicolas Maduro, who was backed by the former ruling Radical Left SYRIZA.

Former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras was close with Maduro, ignoring the Venezuelan leader’s near-dictatorial rule including the killing of protesters and a repressive regime that has seen hundreds of thousands flee to Colombia to escape.

Tsipras and SYRIZA were alone in not going along with a European Union call for new elections in Venezuela and backing Guaido with the Leftists adoring Maduro’s style of government that was widely condemned.
