Greek Foreign Ministry welcomes North Macedonia as 30th NATO member

The Greek Foreign Ministry congratulated the Republic of North Macedonia for officially becoming a member of NATO, in a tweet on Friday, ANA reports.

North Macedonia’s membership is linked to the Prespes Agreement, signed with Greece in June 2018. Respecting the agreement’s terms was a prerequisite for the country’s membership in NATO and the EU. The alliance invited North Macedonia to join it in July 2018, pending ratification by national parliaments of other NATO members, while EU foreign ministers have initiated the process towards the start of accession talks.
