Turkey has “ignored Greece’s urging to end its illegal behavior, and to respect international law instead and fulfill its obligations,” Greek National Defense Minister Nikos Dendias said on Tuesday, after meeting with his visiting German counterpart Heiko Maas, ANA reports.
Dendias said that the latest meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels agreed to prepare a document containing a series of measures that can be selectively applied against Turkey if it continues its illegal behavior. “Greece is open to talks,” he reiterated, as long as Turkey respects international laws.
On his part, Heiko Maas said that Germany’s stance on Turkey was clear, and he called for the sea drilling before Cyprus to end, and new ones not start. “Our stance is clear, international law must be respected,” he said, underlining that progress on EU-Turkey relations will be possible only when Ankara “ends every activity in the eastern Mediterranean.”
