The European Union must play an active role in the issue of constant violations of an arms embargo imposed on Libya, as they have contributed to a qualitative escalation of conflict in the Arab country, Greek Foreign Affairs Minister Nikos Dendias said on Tuesday, ANA reports.
At joint statements after a meeting with visiting Spanish Foreign Minister Arancha Gonzalez Laya, Dendias underlined the need for all EU countries to support the European “Irini” initiative of ensuring the embargo was observed, to “block the import of arms and Jihadi fighters in Libya.”
With Gonzalez Laya he also discussed current EU issues, including migration and the recent approval of an aid package to all member states for coronavirus repercussions on their economies, and stressed Greece’s solidarity to Spain over the pandemic, expressed through an event by the ministry in April and a symbolic donation of funds to fight the virus.
