Greek PM: End of the pandemic now in sight but careful steps are required

In a video conference concerning the donation of 18 mobile ICUs to the public sector from the Committee “Greece 2021”, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Monday noted that the end of the pandemic crisis was now in sight but “how quickly we reach it depends on taking careful steps in the final straight,” ANA reports.
Outlining the efforts made to fight the pandemic in Greece, which was first detected in the country exactly a year ago, Mitsotakis said it was now “up to all of us to make this the only year of the pandemic” and pointed out that Greece will have soon exceeded the one-million mark for vaccinations performed. While acknowledging that the health system was under pressure, especially in Attica, he appeared confident that this was being handled well, with figures showing that Greece “continues to defend itself more effectively against the third wave of the pandemic, which now has the additional feature of a strain, the so-called British strain, which is a lot more contagious.”
The prime minister, while acknowledging people’s fatigue with the measures, underlined that it was essential to making one final effort, especially in the next two weeks, before the economy and education can return to more normal rhythms.
