California State Assembly issues proclamation on Greek Bicentennial

The California State Assembly issued a special proclamation on the 200th anniversary of the Greek War of Independence on March 25, 2021, according to greekreporter.com.

The proclamation was issued and signed by the State Assembly Speaker pro Tempore, the Honorable Kevin Shelly, who represents the Assembly’s 22nd District in California.The proclamation reads:

“This is in commemoration of the 200th Anniversary of Greek Independence Day, and in recognition of the many contributions, the United Hellenic American Societies (UHAS) has made representing the Greek American community in California by promoting, preserving, and protecting Greek culture, heritage, and tradition. On behalf of the State of California, congratulations and best wishes for continued success.”

The UHAS representing Greek Americans in California is a non-profit entity that was first established in 1954 to promote, preserve, and protect Greek culture, heritage, and tradition through strong community relations.

“We appreciate this special acknowledgment and recognition of this the 200th anniversary of Greek Independence by our State’s Assembly Speaker pro Tempore Kevin Shelley”, said UHAS President Taso Zografos.

“We are thankful for the State Assembly’s support of the over 150,000 Greek Americans living in California”.

Greece’s history is often reflected upon in two distinct periods known as “Ancient Greece” and “Modern Greece” separated in time by around 400 years.
