An extraordinary government delegation with the participation of MPs, as well as local bodies and authorities of Lassithi, is expected to visit Ierapetra next Monday to manage the crisis in the region due to the fire.
From the side of the Ministry of Tourism, it has been planned so far that the Secretary General of Tourism Policy and Development, Ms. Vasiliki Koutsoukou, will participate in the government delegation.
Meanwhile, following a meeting held today in Ierapetra, with the participation of local bodies and representatives from the tourism sector, it was announced that the recent fire has been brought under full control and there is no active front.
It is emphasized that significant ground and air forces participated in the firefighting operation, which acted quickly and effectively, ensuring the immediate response to the phenomenon, while throughout its development, there was no threat to human lives. Also, the Region of Crete informs that all central road axes have been fully returned to traffic and accessibility to the area has been restored.
Tourist units and local businesses are operating normally and are ready to welcome visitors again, including those who were evacuated as a precaution. Weather conditions, with weakened winds, are supportive, while the discreet presence of the Fire Department exists for precautionary reasons.
