Deputy Minister of Tourism Anna Karamanli participated in the Regional Growth Conference East Macedonia & Thrace held in Komotini, emphasizing the decisive role of tourism as a lever for sustainable regional development.
Ms. Karamanli, after briefly presenting the steady upward performance of Greek tourism to date, referred to the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, underlining the fact that, according to data from the Bank of Greece, it is a typical example of positive tourism dynamics, while continuing by saying ‘’… the region has significant comparative advantages… Its pivotal position in combination with its natural and cultural wealth, enhances its attractiveness in international markets…’’
The Deputy Minister then referred to the Ministry’s strategy for sustainable, balanced development as well as the interventions and strategic tools with which it is implemented. After presenting in detail the targeted interventions of the Ministry for the region, she made a special mention of the Visit Rhodopes project, within the framework of the Interreg Greece-Bulgaria: ‘’…the goal is to highlight the mountainous region of Rhodope, through a targeted branding campaign and the use of modern technologies, such as digital media and drone technology…’’
In closing, Ms. Karamanli emphasized ‘’…we want more tourism development but above all we want higher quality, sustainable development. And we want it for every Region, for every destination, for every local community…’’
