The first six months of this year have been an outstanding period for Berlin’s business travel sector and the city’s tourism in general.
The hotel industry in Berlin can look back on a strong first six months, largely because of the rapidly rising number of business travellers flocking to the capital, Visit Berlin announced today. In this year’s first six months over 14.4 million overnight stays were counted, a growth of 4.3 percent compared to the same period in 2015.
The number of overnight stays accounted to visitors arriving for conventions rose by over nine percent, as 3.6 million nights were spent in the city by business travellers between January an June – meaning every fourth overnight stay is linked to a person attending a convention. Since more high-profile conventions such as the World Health Summit and the World Architecture Festival are still to come this year, Travel Berlin expects a solid second half for 2016.
Germany’s capital and most popular tourist destination has also seen a sharp rise of foreign tourists: their total grew by 4.8 percent in the first six months.
