As followed by the conclusions of the 5 th Conference on Tourism, «City Branding – the prospects of the Athenian Riviera», organized by IVT XINIS Glyfada in cooperation with the Faculty of Tourism of the Mediterranean College, in Glyfada’s Town Hall, the coastal zone of Athens manages to combine the comparative advantages of a remote resort, to an urban environment while maintaining the conveniences a city provides.
All these suggest to form a highly competitive and a highly popular destination in the tourism industry for holidays throughout the year.
The easy access from the centre of Athens and the variety of activities offered, make the Athenian Riviera, an ideal tourist area for walking, shopping, gastronomic delights, swimming and water sports.
Modern sports infrastructure, the unique golf course in Attica, shopping malls, conference centres, hospitals, excellent spa facilities at Lake Vouliagmeni, in conjunction with the archaeological area of Sounion, compose a complete holiday experience of admirers of both classic and alternative tourism.
The area of the Athenian Riviera provides accommodation facilities oh high quality, equal to those of the top-level tourist resorts in the Mediterranean. This is also confirmed by the research of students of the Faculty of Tourism of IVT XINIS Glyfada, showing that 68.6% of tourists choose the area for purposes of entertainment.
With the 5 th Conference on Tourism, of IVT XINIS Glyfada, a five-year cycle of events focusing on Glyfada’s Tourism, with the participation of numerous local authorities and large tourism companies and organisations is completed.
Glyfada’s Mayor, Mr. Georgios Papanikolaou, welcoming the conference, referred to the «special prospects of development and the establishment of the Athenian Riviera as branded destination in the Tourism Industry».
The prospects of promotion and establishment of the Athenian Riviera as a 12-month top quality Tourism destination are unbreakably linked with the Tourism Training, which should be of high standards, so that the human resources of Tourism to provide the most quality services to the modern tourist, emphasized on his greeting speech, the President of the Educational Group XINIS, Mr. Sophocles Xinis. «Actions are required by both private and public institutions involved, with the aim to overcome the problems creating obstacles in the Tourism Development, such as bureaucracy», he underlined.
Regarding, the Gastronomy and Culinary Tourism, which was the subject of the 4 th Conference on Tourism, of IVT XINIS Glyfada (March2015), it is worth mentioning that the corresponding research made by the students in Food and Tourism Faculty, showed that 59% of tourists visiting Athens says that the Greek cuisine significantly contributes to their decision to visit Greece again and again.
Another important element that came as a result of this specific research, is that more than 85% of visitors are satisfied by the food services provided during the summer season.
