Greece’s capital will receive a total of 85 million euros in EU funds, which have been approved to go towards works and projects in Athens during the next five years, Athens Mayor Giorgos Kaminis has said.
“Athens is on a track to recovery thanks to the 85 million euros we have secured for the next five years. Athens can now look to the future with optimism,” Kaminis said, adding that “the projects in the development plan are aimed at upgrading the daily lives of citizens, improving the image and functionality of the city and its competitive profile,” noted the Mayor.
The city’s Municipality secured a total of 85 million euros as part of the Operational Program Attica – 2014-2020 focusing on urban regeneration, environmental protection, energy efficiency, social welfare and education as well as culture and tourism development, and on the support of entrepreneurship.
The funds will also be utilized for works in the southern suburbs of Nea Smyrni and Tavros-Moschato as part of Athens’ joint development efforts.
