In the context of UNESCO’s Athens 2018 World Book Capital, the non-profit cultural organization ATOPOS CVC holds events and actions under the name #TextMe, curated by Vasilis Zidianakis. The program features events around books, texts, art and the act of reading. On this occasion, Artist Antigone Tsagaropoulou designed and implemented an unusual library-interactive installation called #TextMe_FluffyLibrary.
In this unconventional library, visitors are encouraged to take off their shoes and lay down to read the book of their preference. The #TextMe_FluffyLibrary occupies the rooms of Atopos CVC, incorporating in the main artwork the rich book collection of the organisation, which consists of more than 2.500 art books. The project combines the logic of a large-scale installation with impromptu performances, collective storytellings, plush sculptures and furry costumes.
It also operates as a workshop that will produce an unconventional fairy tale. Antigoni Tsagkaropoulou, in cooperation with other artists, scientists, story-tellers, educators and the general public, will create the story of ‘Fluffy’.
Alongside the #FluffyLibrary, a parallel program that includes performances, workshops, lectures, discussions and mini-exhibitions by artists and academic researchers will also be organized. What links these two programs, are the hybrid languages that arise when the text is combined with other artistic means. The visual poetry of the 20th century, the spoken word and the boundaries between poetry and sound art, modern linguistic phenomena in online pop culture and new media, as well as word and display are some of the #TextMe_Lab main topics.
