Faliron Bay restoration works in Athens Riviera under completion

Restoration works in Faliron Bay have now entered their final stage. The works include large-scale flood defense interventions and the relocation of the coastal Poseidonos Ave. between SEF and Syngrou Ave., a section with a length of 2km, ypodomes.com reports.

The shifted and undergrounded road section, which will be about 80 meters closer to the sea, is under completion and is expected to be released to traffic in two phases within the next few months.

As soon as the first, new section is operational, the existing Avenue will be demolished in order for the flood defense works to be completed, for the area’s protection. The most difficult part of the project is now as the new section of the motorway will have to be connected with Syngrou Avenue on one end and Kifissos Ave. on the other.

The contractor is AKTOR SA and, according to the most recent schedule of the project, its completion in expected in the summer.

According to the planning of Attica’s local government, the next step for the large project will be the auction for the restoration works and the creation of a new urban park, a “green” project costing 90m euros, funded exclusively by the Region of Attica. It is reminded that the current project had an initial budget of 150m euros, which also includes the earth covering of the road tunnel and the construction of 2 underground parking spaces, above which the largest coastal park in Athens, just 5 km from the city center, will be created.
