The municipality of Athens celebrates carnival season all around the city center and neighborhoods, for two weeks and with more than 65 free events, int.ert.gr reports.
From February 23 to March 11, local traditions and customs from all over Greece, come alive in city squares and streets with concerts, dancing, theatre performances and masquerades.
This year, the Olympia, Maria Callas Municipal Music Theater, will host a number of special carnival concerts featuring the Municipality of Athens Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus, the Athens Big Band with Arlyn Gonzalez and their frantic latin rhythms, among many more. Carnival celebrations terminate on Clean Monday, March 11, at Philopappou Hill, where young and old will celebrate with Spyros Polykandriotis and his traditional band who will play Rebetiko and Smyrneika songs.
