“Great Walk of Athens”: One of the largest urban interventions in history approved

One of the largest urban interventions ever made in the city of Athens commences at the end of the month.

Through a teleconference meeting, the Athens Municipal Council approved the implementation of the “Great Walk of Athens”, with a total length of route 6, 8 km, and which includes the Unification of the capital’s historic center.

During the presentation of the project’s plan to the municipal councilors, NTUA Professor George Yannis announced that the completion of the project will see a free public space for residents and visitors of Athens of approximately 50,000 sq.m., a new bike path on Panepistimiou Street, while the historic areas of Plaka and the Commercial Triangle, as well as the streets Herodou Attikou, Mitropoleos, Ermou, and Athinas, will be converted into carless areas.
