The Athens-Sounio highway leading to Sounio will be opened to traffic on Saturday morning, following repair work on one of the Loumbarda tunnels, ANA reports.
During the repair time, authorities also introduced improvements: a four-meter wall on either side of the road to keep rocks and water from the road, and a wire net over the tunnel to ensure that any stone remaining from cleaning work will not fall on cars. The region also introduced safety walls for cars and corrected the reverse angle of the road. It also added sidewalks and added LED lights inside and outside the tunnels on either side of the road.
