The 40th Peace Marathon March will be held on Sunday, May 22, the Greek Committee for International Detente & Peace (EEDYE) announced on Thursday, greekcitytimes.com reports.
In its announcement, EEDYE noted its opposition to the presence of NATO and US military bases in Greece and its condemnation of what it called the imperialist war in Ukraine.
The Peace Marathon March starts at 08:00 from the Tomb of Marathon (Tymvos Marathona) and ends at 18:30 in front of the Greek National Defense Ministry on Messoghion Avenue in Athens, where a protest gathering will also be held.
The annual march is held in memory of leftist MP Grigoris Lambrakis, who was detained during a solo march for peace from the Tomb of Marathon to central Athens. Lambrakis was murdered on May 22, 1963, after he was released.
